Pokeweed is a common weed in the South. It is poisonous to eat as food, but people sometimes use it as a medicine for particular ailments.

That looks like what we called nightshade, my mom made pies out of the berries.

To be more accurate we had visitors who called them nightshade, they must not have been nightshade/polk berries if they are that toxic.
