Ozzie Nelson often plays the dupe or clueless one. Not so Harriet and the kids.
True enough, but Ozzie was the exception to the rule, i.e. Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, even the Donna Reed Show had strong, white father figures.

Before you do anything else, check out the SCTV spoof of Leave It to Beaver on YouTube. It’s “Leave It to Beaver” 25 years later. John Candy plays The Beaver; no job, collects welfare. Watch stumbling Ward pour booze instead of milk into his breakfast cereal. Eddie Haskell’s got a thing for Wally. June is having an affair with Fred Rutherford (Lumpy’s father). It may be one of the funniest skits ever shown on TV.
