House Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.) has introduced a bill that would require gun owners to carry liability insurance.

The Firearm Risk Protection Act, unveiled Friday, would require gun buyers to have liability insurance coverage before being allowed to purchase a weapon, and would impose a fine of $10,000 if an owner is found not to have it. Service members and law enforcement officers, however, would be exempt from the requirement.

It’s not just for New York - Maloney is a member of the US House of Representatives from New York.

This is an assault on the elderly and poor minorities who cannot afford this “insurance” ( extortion). The elderly would have to chose between grub and medicine or self defense while the hardworking, hardworking poor will have to chose between food, rent and school clothes or self defense. Throw this Nazi ho in prison.

Maloney said in a statement:
“We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns,
The results are clear, car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade,
but gun fatalities continue to rise.”
-
And no one bothered to ask how having liability insurance
on our cars relates to having fewer car fatalities?

Any bets on whether they would then make it impossible to get that insurance?

Amend it to require slander and libel insurance for speech. It would become illegal to speak or write in any way without buying insurance first.

I notice since Fergueson, MO the gun control crowd has been a lot quieter on the “only police should have guns” angle.

“We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns,”

Is that true? Or is it that you need insurance to drive on the government owned roads and you don't need insurance to own a car or to drive on private tracks?

this is a back door gun registration and would quickly become the list that the government would go to when it came time to confiscate gun.

Just like a Poll tax is unconstitutional, this would be, too.

I’m sure the insurance companies would love this. Another mandatory extortion windfall. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if some insurance companies start lobbying for this.

No, it is certainly NOT true!

That's why there can be bazillions of old unregistered cars and trucks in garages, barns and back yards, and you sign a thick stack of wavers absolving everyone in sight before anyone lets you on a race track.

In any case, there is no Constitutional right to drive a car. Even if Congress went to the 'rats and a 'rat President signed this, it's unconstitutional. First, she needs to get rid of that pesky Bill of Rights. (While we're at it, how about repealing the 19th Amendment?)

fine of $10,000 if an owner is found not to have it

So a gang banger caught with a gun gets fined $10K?

[ Hey lady, remember the 2nd Amendment? Those rights shall not be infringed upon. Most guns are owned by law-abiding citizens exercising their rights under the Constitution. They don’t need liability insurance anymore than Congress Critters need a pay raise.

Why not require criminals to have liability insurance and fine them if they don’t? They’re the ones that cause all the problems with guns. Leave the rest of us alone and do something productive and constructive with your time in the Congress besides trying to make it harder for citizens to own guns. ]

Maybe we need 1st Amendment insurance sot hat those offended by our free speech and sue the insurance company....

This is completely asinine
