Here is what he said-

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/06/10/game-thrones-martin-books

“… Meanwhile, other wars are breaking out on other fronts, centered around the last few episodes of Game of Thrones. It is not my intention to get involved in those, nor to allow them to take over my blog and website, so please stop emailing me about them, or posting off-topic comments here on my Not A Blog….Yes, I know that The Hollywood Reporter named me ‘the third most powerful writer in Hollywood’ last December. You would be surprised at how little that means. I cannot control what anyone else says or does, or make them stop saying or doing it, be it on the fannish or professional fronts. What I can control is what happens in my books, so I am going to return to that chapter I’ve been writing on The Winds of Winter now, thank you very much.”

It seems like he is downplaying how much influence he has on the show in that statement, but maybe I am misreading it.

I think your summary of Stannis’ killing of his daughter as it relates to the scene with Brienne is a very likely scenario.

Thank You, I think you are reading it correctly Chris.

Some places call that "Backtracking"

In Kansas we call it "Covering Your Own Ass!"

The Death of Shireen (and to a lesser extent the rape of Sansa, but that has not happened in the books in any way shape or form to her) and Now the Death of Stannis and Jon Snow will cause a MASSIVE Disinterest in the Show and I think Martin understands with that comes More Disinterest in his Books....

Because people don't want to see that Happen or feel like the Show has ruined it for them and won't read them.

Those things (Jon Snow I hear did actually happen though) WILL be a Pox and Bane for viewership and ratings for the coming seasons.

Well, Since All that Happened in the Episode today, I guess a Spoiler Warning doesn't count for much.

But Still

Below is a Graphic that compares The War in The North from the Books and The War in The North from the Show. Don't look if you don't want spoilers, but if you have seen Season 5, there is nothing to spoil.

So Much Lost Awesome and Politicking it's Heartbreaking.
