1986 Supreme Court:

Gays are ‘’entitled to respect for their private lives,’’ Justice Anthony M. Kennedy said for the court. ‘’The state cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making their private sexual conduct a crime.’’

Justice Kennedy said further that ‘’adults may choose to enter upon this relationship in the confines of their homes and their own private lives and still retain their dignity as free persons.’’

It was a hanging offense in 1787, it was an imprisoning offense during all of the 19th, and half of the 20th century, and it was an involuntary institutionalization offense for a couple decades thereafter.

Yes, the state CAN demean their existence and this state of affairs was the NORM for most of Western Civilization's history.

Judge Kennedy just thinks he's smarter than thousands of years of collective wisdom.
