I’ll have to watch this. When I first started practice in 1992, the US Gov’t sent me a chart of the new and approved “food pyramid” heavily weighted at the bottom with carbs - like the people who followed the gov’t dietary recommendations.

The FIRST thing I said when I saw it was “now for the diabetes epidemic.”

Prescient? No. I’d taken several courses on nutrition as an undergrad and my med school also had a 4 semester hour class requirement so I at least had a clue.

Carbs are cheap. Protein and vegetables are expensive.

A pound of rice or a pound of low-fat sirloin on a budget.

But this is simply more evidence of government advocating and giving advice where it has no constitutional authority.

In the documentary they make mention that the same high carb, low protein/fat diet the government is pushing on people to “get thin” is the exact same diet they give feed animals to “get fat”.

The other interesting thing they note is that when these were being pushed hard the rise of depression books rose a great deal. When you go low on protein and fats, people get depressed. Think about the cult brainwashing diets they put people on, rice, no meats.
