She was dismissed yesterday from the college for her blatantly racist statements.

Maybe I misread that. Did they say "dismissed" or "promoted"? Maybe it's a typo?

The university’s statement is very neutral. According to some sources, she had already left to take a job elsewhere when this blew up.
