I don't think the politicians who handed out luxurious pensions to public workers cared one way or the other. It bought them elections and they were secure in the knowledge that they would be long gone by the time the bill came due.

The politicians also benefited from the same pension structure. They all get government pensions while we pay both their pensions and Social Security and retire on a pittance in comparison.

Means test government employee pensions!
