Performing an important public service.
I have to admit. I’ve been caught off guard by this. I had no idea that people were keeping chickens as pets. I get raising chickens for eggs. I understand grilling their tasty meat. I was not, however, aware that people think owning a chicken is a lot like owning a cat.
Apparently, I’ve been asleep at the switch. It’s a brave new world and chicken-pets are a part of it.
But, if you’re thinking it would be tons of fun to see a rooster curled up in a ball at the foot of your bed, you should probably think again. In addition to their nasty beaks and sharp claws, live poultry boasts a host of diseases - most notably salmonella. This has the CDC worried.
Can we kiss them after being baked at 375° F for 20 minutes?

Too late Bob, I used to “snuggle” with my pets chickens ..
My favorite, Matilda would crouch down so I would pick her up and carry her around leaning back on my shoulder with her head against my ear..
another one Henrietta wasn’t quite so friendly, but she liked to be petted too..
others would follow us, clucking happily, as Matilda and I would walk...it was quite a parade around the chicken run..

I’m sure someone will claim their chicken as a service animal. I can relate, first eggs then baked at 375.
And don't forget, no one else's marriage will be harmed by it.
Who are we to judge if a man or woman is in love with a chicken and wants to be seen in a legal relationship? How BRAVE of those chicken lovers. How HEROIC... /s :)
lol I had 2 pet roosters, growing up. White Leghorns. Easter chickens that lived.
One of them- Red, was cross-eyed in 1 eye, but was real smart & would actually lay down & “play dead”. Blue was meaner than hell. Both I- & our German Shepherd, were scared to death of him. (Their spurs were about 3” long & he did not hesitate) Red lived until I was in 8th grade & Blue died when I was a sophomore in HS. I can’t remember now if I was in the 3rd or the 4th grade when I got them.
Any time they saw a light come on (like a bathroom or kitchen light), they crowed. Some of the neighbors were not amused.
And whatever you do, let me repeat, whatever you do, do NOT sleep with your chickens, and/or take them in the shower or bath with you! Seriously!
Back in the day, in the south, histoplasmosis, a lung infection, was endemic, caught from the chickens they kept. I lost 20% of my lung capacity to this disease.
Chicken diseases are no joke!
