I find it funny you’re talking about the bill of rights but you have a thing for a confederate army general

Nathan Bedford Forrest would no doubt maintain that his whole career was dedicated to a defense of the Constitution. My "obsession" with Nathan Bedford Forrest you will find either denied or defended here .

Your posted link doesn’t work, but your link from your name does.

Well written.

I will say, it is hard not to see similarities between Sherman and Forrest, especially in “their view of the battlefield”.

At best, you’re stretching the truth in favor of the videographer when saying he didn’t want to make a profit. I believe in first amendment protection, also, but his focus on videoing the incident may have cost one of the victims his life. That’s pretty despicable.

“Freedom of Speech” has undergone a continual attack since 1964 and with each passing year we have lost and ever increasing chunk of it. It has now reached the “tipping point” and is serious danger of being totally ignored by our government.

The year 2015 will go down in history as the year the Constitution and Bill of Rights were reduced to just another piece of paper.

Proof of that fact was certified when the government forced the acceptance of gay and transgendered lifestyles upon our religious freedoms and the crowning glory was the vicious attack upon the Confederate flag and the expression of free speech.

In all, our political lemmings followed suit with vigor to do the bidding of our Marxist President and social media. It’s as if we are repeating the days of early Russia...and we are!

This upcoming election is the last gasp of freedom we have left and if we do not elect a non-politician to save us, we are totally doomed for ALL career politicians have made it a career by “going along to get along” to the point that we now are at.

“Filming of the jumpers on 9/11? No.”

They are nauseating photos and films to see, but they needed to be taken to record the truth about Islam. Because they’re so horrific, I expect that most of them will be scrubbed from the Internet by the Muslim in the White Hut. In 25 years, they’ll be able to say “It never happened — people jumping from the World Trade Center. Show proof.” They’ll be the modern-day answer to the Holocaust Deniers. Citizens need to be reminded.

I understand that sentiment completely, and is about the only justification I will accept.

I have watched a beheading video, and that was enough. But I did feel compelled to watch it, not as a snuff-film motivation, but as a need to understand the barbarity and savagery of the enemy we face.

And I did have the feeling that everyone who doesn’t understand the nature of the war we are engaged in should see it for that same purpose.

“I just wanted to educate people to slow down”. No, he didn’t. He wanted to sell the footage to the highest bidding news station. I have read all the FReepers points of view and I get it... the first amendment. However, from the law enforcements point of view— once he entered the vehicle, he disturbed a scene of a crime (possibly vehicular homicide or DWI or whatever). What about a good samaritan entering the vehicle.. in the hopes of offering some sort of aid? I believe that is covered under the Good Samaritan laws.

Now, my personal moral outrage: not all of us.. but some of us no longer see others as valuable. As fellow humans. If this was me.. would I have entered the vehicle to help? Yes.. but because I see some 17 year old teens as someone’s baby.. as a son. I don’t see them as a possible few hundred dollars towards my bank account. If a teen died, I would take comfort in telling his parents that during his final moments here on earth.. he had someone telling him he was okay and help was on the way. That he left this earth with someone at his side vs someone taking a picture for the purpose of selling it. Would that comfort his parents? I don’t know but it would sure as hell comfort me if one of my teens were dying in a car. To know that someone gave a damn would help me.

his focus on videoing the incident may have cost one of the victims his life.

I recommend you reread my reply and then reread the article. You will note that I considered his desire, or lack of desire, to make a profit in the alternative. I found no evidence in the article that his actions might have cost one of the victims his life.

IMO the lines are not all that close together. If you catch a plane crash on video there is nothing you can do.

If you enter a car after a crash you should be providing care to the victims not morbidly exercising your “free speech” at the expense of others.

I agree that one should not enter except to render aid or assist those who are.

That is the morally correct and socially acceptable thing to do.

However, people should be and often are guided by a sense of what is decent (and the reactions, anticipated or actual of those around them to their behaviour). IMHO, someone's compass is off in this case, even giving the person the benefit of the doubt and saying they wanted to use the video as a deterrent to youthful stupidity.

If this was for a profit motive do I find it reprehensible? Yes, absolutely.

Socially unacceptable? I agree.

...and the reaction of others (including the alleged refusal of media to use the video) enforces those societal norms.

Society can choose its norms without necessarily passing laws, and that has been done for as long as there have been societies.

As for the plane reference, someone who (without picking up anything) walked through the debris field from the plane crash with their camera recording video (often, the victims are beyond aid) or recording the actual crash could conceivably gather information which would be of aid in an investigation, and such video has been used to allege the airliner shot down in the Ukraine was done by a Russian missile.

The movie I referenced and linked (Signal 30) was part of a series shown to countless Driver's Education students back in the day, along with others of the same series, eliciting vomiting in a number of the class. It was produced in cooperation with the Ohio State Police, and graphic in nature.

I guess the irony is that it is okay if they did it, but not if someone else does it.

My concern here is that there not be a two tier system of Rights. If some have those Rights, but others do not, how can those Rights be truly unalienable? Is The Almighty playing favorites and making some humans more equal than others? When we invite such regard by those who govern us, we give away the power to govern ourselves because of the actions of a few. That has been the 'justification' for onerous gun control laws and a host of other violations of Rights which our servants seek to impose on the rest of us, while remaining effectively or statutorily exempt from those same restrictions.

It does not matter if it is Obamacare, Gun Control, or any of a host of other impositions, they should be resisted. As for the tasteless, morbid, and socially unacceptable, they will be with us always, and legal restrictions will not eliminate that any more than they have eliminated murder. It remains a matter of principle.

And you also found no evidence that his refusal to render aid did not.

Society can choose its norms without necessarily passing laws, and that has been done for as long as there have been societies.

In this age of the internet there will be a segment of society that will get off on this, and there will be places to post that video. Also in that segment there will be a subset of people that get off on sending the video back to the parents, the same way that ISIS gets off on raping and murdering children in front of the parents.

There was a teenage girl a few years ago that was beheaded on prom night in a car crash. People would e-mail and send the photos of her to the parents after the crash. In my view this is equal to rape and murder and anyone who does these things, to endlessly make the parents relive their daughters death time after time for the sole purpose of perverted pleasure should be executed.

As was said earlier on this thread these people were hung in 1900. That was poetic justice.

Ok, let me play devil’s advocate for a minute.

The autopsy on the deceased comes back and shows that if they had been give aid sooner, they would most likely have survived, doesn’t this rise to the level of Criminal Negligence?
Doesn’t the Creator endowed Right to Life, trump the Founder entreated (sorry if not the right word) Freedom of the Press?

Isn’t this essentially the charge against 2 of the cops in Baltimore?

No opinion on guilt, just on charges brought. Your thoughts?
