Well, yeah. I’ve seen them accused of a lot, but this is the first time I’m seeing that one.
Enron had a bunch of very smart guys trading energy primarily.
They took advantage of the newly deregulated energy markets and were always looking for additional revenue generating ideas.
Someone at Enron conceived the idea to have Washington regulate co2 and they would create an exchange for trading carbon credits.
They sold Gore on the idea and Enron actually hired scientists to conclude that co2 was a pollutant in order to get the EPA and Washington to regulate it.
IRRC, those Enron “Scientists” testified on Capitol Hill way back in the mid 1990’s.
They leveraged the passion and fear of the environmental movement in order to set themselves up to make billions of dollars.
