I think Cruz cozying up to Trump is based on the thought that Trump will eventually fall and Cruz will be there to pick up the pieces. If that’s his strategy its a gamble but if he is campaigning for VP, he’s setting his bar low. Trump is an opportunist fraud. Cruz is too good to be his benchwarmer.

I don’t think Trump would argue with you about opportunist. America was built by people who saw an opportunity and took it. Fraud, not so much. The man says what he thinks, listens to the smartest, most knowledgeable people he can find (like Jeff Sessions, Art Laffer and Steve Forbes to name a few recently) knows a lot and loves to learn new things. Not bad qualities in a leader. What he thinks may have changed over the years, and if you don’t like something that’s OK. But he’s no fraud.

I think Cruz cozying up to Trump is based on the thought that Trump will eventually fall and Cruz will be there to pick up the pieces.

Surely you've noticed that Trump and Cruz have a great deal of respect for each other, and that there's an unspoken alliance between their camps.

Do you really believe that Trump is so dense that he wouldn't notice that Cruz is only cozying up to him in order to be the beneficiary of his massive support, should Trump "fall"?

Do you really believe that Cruz is so shallow, that he'd actually cultivate such an obvious political alliance for ulterior motives only?

As far as Trump "falling", there's little chance of that occurring at this point. If he was going to commit some unforced error that would make him radioactive, it would have happened by now. In fact, the opposite is occurring. The more outspoken Trump is, the more he resonates with the American people, who, for the most part, think and talk just like he does, where it comes to the issues of the day.

Trump is an opportunist fraud.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it seems that a plurality of Republican voters disagree with you. As do I. Most of America has watched Donald Trump for decades, and know who the man is. He's not exactly an unknown quantity. Millions of voters have taken the measure of the man and are convinced that he means what he says, and that he'll do everything in his power to fulfill his promises.

Simply looking at it analytically, there's little reason to doubt him. He's got no more mountains to climb in this life. At his age, and with his wealth, taking on the presidency isn't a step up - it's a terrible, life draining commitment, fraught with all sorts of danger. A commitment that I'm sure he's not taking lightly.

I truly believe he feels duty bound to step up to the plate and take matters into his own hands, since it seems the GOP has not only let us down, but is actually working for the other side.
