So what do you get when an airman and weekend warrior go on vacation?

I am so proud of these two service members I could burst. These aren't special ops guys, they are your neighbor's son or the buddy that can't make the game this weekend because he has guard duty. They are the day to day Americans that the media never notices.
Spencer lets go, is a picture of what normal American citizens can do if they choose to take responsibility for the world around them, even when that world has suddenly turned very dark and dangerous.
The people in charge of the situation, locked the doors and hid from the danger. Two young men stood up and confronted what was wrong.

But it is much more than that! It is a story about the bravery and initiative of Americans.
Some wit commented that instead of the three Marines as originally reported, or the Airman and National Guardsman, they were actually an American grandmother with an umbrella, a girl scout with a Kenpo yellow belt, and an elementary school cheerleader, who whupped on the terrorist then hogtied him.
Yep, I could see that happening as well. A truly pissed-off American is actually a dangerous person. Now replace "American" with any other nationality, except perhaps Gurkha, and it's less believable.

Compare these heroes to the wussies on our college campuses who see themselves as victims of micro aggression should they even hear something politically incorrect. Thank God for young Americans like these.
The larger context is also instructive. In a moment of crisis, the French train crew ran and hid, but three young American male passengers swung into action, and with an assist from a Brit, attacked and subdued an armed terrorist. Notably, the Americans have been erroneously referred to in many accounts as three Marines. This is an error that does tribute to the Marines and to our three heroes, who surely acted as if they were Marines ready for action.
