I wish there was a way to know that Ted Cruz was truly off the GOPe reservation and free of big donor influence. I also fear the Supreme Court would rule him ineligible due to his birth in Canada, and not because the case law supports it or doesn’t support it, but because they could get away with it. Just look at what they’ve done recently.

As for Trump, he sure isn’t the “true conservative” I’d love to see dismantling the GOPe, but what’s the chance of finding a candidate who is free of the influence of Super Pac donors, communicates like Ronald Reagan, has an impeccable conservative record and history, but isn’t a career politician, or at least if he is one, hasn’t got “DC Fever” while he’s been in Washington?

We might be waiting a long, long time for this ideal candidate, and by then there may well not be enough freedom left to allow change, or else the immigrants and domestic chowderheads voting for the government teat may outnumber and outvote any coalition this pretend perfect candidate could possibly put together. In fact, that may be the case now.

Trump may not be the conservative Mr. Right, but he’s the anti GOPe Mr. Right Now, and that may be all that matters.

Good post. I am sure you hit one nail on the head that I think about but haven’t mentioned much.

I believe if Cruz took the lead, the GOPe would have no problem using Cruz’s Canadian birth to declare him not eligible. So far that has not been mentioned, but if he starts climbing to the top, they would use that to topple him.

I know it is hypocritical, but that isn’t a problem for the GOP these days.
