Ya can’t make a good chicken salad sammich, or tuna for that matter, using that stuff.
It makes everything too sweet.
I believe the other part of its name stems from how slave masters used to whip their slaves to eat it, because they otherwise wouldn't. But I could be wrong. On occasion I am.
