Some "hoagies" can be made without mayonaise, but this guy's best-selling, most popular hoagie (the #19) does include mayonaise, as he demonstrates in this Pops Philly video clip:

I grew up in NJ and was blessed with a multitude of delicatessens that offered good sandwiches on good bread.

Then I moved. First to the central Illinois, then NW Pennsylvania. It seems that a hoagie to these people is 2 slices of bologna on a hotdog roll.

Last week I was in Waterbury, CT for a job and got an Italian Combo "Grinder" from Nardelli's. Good bread, generous amount of meat on it... I was in heaven.
