Mexico hunkers down for Patricia, 'the most dangerous storm in history'

Hurricane Patricia -- the strongest hurricane ever recorded -- weakened slightly as it barreled closer to Mexico's Pacific coast, with sustained winds decreasing to 190 mph and gusts to 235 mph on Friday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.

Residents are bracing for potentially catastrophic 200 mph sustained winds and torrential rains.

The excessive wind speeds, according to the head of the Mexican agency that includes its national weather service, "makes Patricia the most dangerous storm in history."

Another idiotic and historically uninformed scare headline. Because we don’t have any records from the past and the means to measure storms we have now didn’t exist in the past, there is no way we can honestly know if Patricia actually is: ‘the most dangerous storm in history.’

I liked what Joe Bastardi said on the Shawn Hannity show this afternoon (paraphrase): “Because of our modern ways of measuring storms and tracking them every moment of their life, I will say that this is the strongest storm in modern RECORDED history.”

Sorry, I’m a historian and don’t like folks who recklessly throw around ‘first, biggest, smallest’ and etc.

"The liberals will blame this storm on global warming."

The liberals will blame are blaming this storm on global warming.

Prayers up. 200mph... it’s not going to end well if it hits a heavily populated area.

Worse storm in history? Who was tracking the size of storms before 1950? How about 1850? 1750? 1650? 1250? 900 AD? 2,000 BC? 10,000 BC?

The Obama administration is closely watching the development of powerful Hurricane Patricia as it heads toward Mexico's Pacific coast, the White House said on Friday.
