This is an interesting review (posted in july) thanks for the link.

This is not the first time I rent from AVIS and from this particular place. First of all if you’re a foreigner DO NOT rent from here. I handed in my Argentina license and was told it wasn’t a real license and therefore could not rent the car. I argued over 1hr and finally got the car. I also has a $100 off coupon and they told me I couldn’t use it because I wasn’t American. Be extra sure before you drive off that the EZ pass is closed if you’re not using it. This is not the first time I decline EZ pass and get a car with the EZ pass box open. If you don’t realize before approaching a toll you’ll be charged for using it. I agree with every other review here DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!!!!! The people at the office are 100% non-cooperative refuse to help in any way and don’t care

I will translate the yelp complaint

Translation: Those employees are total jerks for demanding secondary ID like a passport as called for in their company policy. I will write a complaint in yelp smearing them because they wouldn’t break this company policy for me.

Another person who don’t want to show secondary ID passport?

Daily News reporter easily snags fake ID in Queens hotspot for phony documents

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/queens-neighborhood-hot-spot-fake-ids-docs-article-1.1812718

It took me just an hour and a half to get a fake ID in New York City’s ground zero for the fraudulent document business — Roosevelt Ave. in Queens.

The Jackson Heights neighborhood is the epicenter of fake paper mills — rackets that fuel teenage drinking and identity theft and also create fake green cards and passports that can pose a serious security threat.

I didn’t get a new high-tech driver’s license — those are much harder to reproduce - but the market for current licenses, which are still valid if they are issued before September 2013, is skyrocketing.

According to figures from the Queens district attorney’s office, there have already been 130 arrests this year in the borough for creating or possessing fraudulent documents, which include green cards, Social Security cards and passports.

Last year, there were 250 collars, and in 2012 there were 273, according to the DA’s office.

Identity theft is also a problem — there were 262 people charged with the crime in 2012, and 260 charged in 2013.
