Good morning! I thought it odd that I hadn't received notice of updates on windows 7 so I went to the update panel and the only update was for windows 10.
Then I noticed the little blue link "show all available updates" and went to the page where you select your updates. I selected all 34 that are there. Clicked okay, and when I got back to the update page up in the panel where you click start download is the same one and only aggravating windows 10 update I DO NOT WANT.
I'm already having a bad morning and I don't need the aggravation.
It's probably because I clicked on the "reserve a copy of windows 10" last year or whenever but dread going to 10. Just too stinking stressed for that major change and I've worked with it at a friends house (setting up her printer) and IT STINKS.
how do I get rid of the windows 10 crud?

Sorry I can’t help. I went from 7 to 10 on my laptop and regret doing so. Wish I could get 7 back.
When my present computer fizzles my next one will be a used Apple!!!
LOL THANKS! wording is the key to unlock the secret world of windows help.
If your laptop has the windows 7 key on the bottom, you should be able to order the discs from the manufacturer. Any computer repair shop can also get you windows 7 if you have your key and money. At least I hope so because I am going to order a set for a toshiba I need to get a new hard drive into and the hp I use now.
Or are you past MS’ 30-day revert limit?
Bump

You might look at the Mac Mini they start at $499.
True, it’s not a laptop but it is quite versatile.
Actually it’s what I’m typing this on.
I do have a 16” USB monitor that I take with me when I’m mobile and a 15’ power cord. Works quite well.
Also don’t forget the Apple Refurbished Store - everything comes with a full Apple warranty:
http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac
I see that the Mac Mini starts @ $419. Good price!
Disclosure: I’m NOT an Apple Fan Boy - I’m a Windows person.
I run Windows 7 within the Mac via a program called Parallels which creates a virtual machine.
I went this way due to my work - I do a lot of computer consulting and high end AV presentation consultation. I need to have one machine that can open a PowerPoint or a Keynote presentation and this Mac is a great solution.
The Mac is a sweet OS and you might find it a great platform.
Best!
I had the same issue. Click on “show all available updates.” When it comes back, uncheck Windows 10. Then right-click Windows 10 and “hide” it. It will (temporarily?) be removed from the update pane. Annoying, I know. But better than infested with Windows 10 spyware.
Sorry to hear of your problem. I’m so happy I turned off auto updates.
Go here and download the GWX Control Panel.

You can use it to get rid of all the Windows 10 crap.
I dont remember the window name, but go to windows update, and check the link that describes each update, you can control what are serious updates and what are recommended
you have to uncheck windows 10
it tried that on me, too
The price is right and it worked for me when I wanted to put Windows 7 on a machine that had a product code on it but no OS.
I even copied it to a directory on the network then installed from there without a problem when another computer needed the same treatment so if you can't set a machine to boot from USB you should still be able to find a way to install with this.
The main thing is having a valid product key.
The Mac Mini is a nice machine and super quiet too.
I agree that this damned “optional update” is a pestilence, and if it is already installed needs to be removed according to the instructions in your link.
Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3035583)
Download size: 685 KB - 784 KB
Yes, it will remain in your “optional updates” under Windows Update, so you need to remember to never install it.
Yes, it’s truly overlooked in my opinion.
As for quiet, yes it is quiet but...
I have digitized my entire DVD and Blu-ray collection and they are available in my iTunes. I play them via AppleTV’s to various television sets in the house. It’s nice just pressing a button to start a movie playing. No looking for a disc, inserting it into the player and slogging through menus...
When I’m compressing a movie this little Mac Mini really get’s the fan moving as the processor is maxed out! It’s a beast!
For later
