Why not replace the corporate income tax with a tax on carbon dioxide emissions?

I support a revenue-neutral carbon tax on each ton of carbon dioxide emissions. Start the tax at a low amount (perhaps $5 per ton), and then increase it by some small amount every year (perhaps $2 per ton). And use that tax revenue to lower other taxes by an equal amount. I dare Democrats to push for such a policy.

And in order to get Republicans to go along with it, the tax that gets lowered could be the corporate income tax. We could eventually repeal the entire corporate income tax, and replace it with a carbon dioxide tax.

If Democrats are truly against global warming, and if Republicans are truly against the corporate income tax, then what possible objections could they have to this proposal?

Why not just put the tax on the product that produces the energy? Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc.

Not really advocating the idea but my guess is the Saudis and a lot of the other big producers won’t pay near their fair share.

The taxes are really for more affluent nations to subsidize the poorer nation. It’s sort of a redistribution of wealth.

Not really. We’ve got a bunch of knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers that aren’t paying their share.

You give these Green POS’s an inch and they will take everything. This would legitimize a ruse and a hoax.

How about just eliminating all corporate income taxes and transfer the burden to the consumers? That’s what is happening now! Corporations don’t pay taxes. They collect them for the government. Taxes are part of all goods and services in every transaction.

CO2? Quick, somebody explain how that is calculated and audited. Do they calculate the oxygen breathers, energy usage, what? What meter are they goi g to read? It’s another ambiguous ruse.

I support a $5 per word tax on bloggers. It wouldn’t balance the budget, but it would sure get rid of a lot stupid ideas.

Most EU countries tax automobiles on the grams per mile (or km) of CO2 emissions.

The car I drive would be subject to an ANNUAL carbon tax of about $400 if I lived in the UK.

No thanks. No carbon taxes please, they are based on a lie.

Yeah, right.

In the history of the world, no new tax has ever replaced an old tax. New taxes just get added on top of the old ones.

Even people who don’t believe in global warming might still want to get rid of the corporate income tax.

The repeal of the old tax would have to be in writing as part of the bill.

They should also outlaw oxygen. It is a known explosive, and right-wing extremists use it all the time.

Tax stocks and financial trades. It will get rid of the massive gambling. Stock markets are there to finance business, not as a slot machine.

A am suspect of any new tax scheme, until our budgets are balanced. Any revision prior to that is dangerous.
