The Air Force and Army MARS (Military Auxiliary Radio System) will conduct their first 2016 communications exercise (COMEX) from 7:00 am until 6:59 pm EST on Friday, 12 February. The scenario will be: there is no power, no phones (cell or landline), and no internet. Also, internet linked radio repeaters (such as D-Star) should not be used. One of the objectives of this COMEX is to reach as many counties and cities within the entire country as possible. It is expected that sometime during the second hour (8–9 am), a request will come down asking MARS stations to contact hams for a local conditions report. That request will probably have a deadline of around eight hours (and certainly be due a couple of hours before End of Exercise – ENDEX). Prior contact and pre-arranged schedules between MARS stations and hams is permitted and encouraged.
MARS stations will be instructed to collect the data from hams via radio only – using any FCC authorized amateur frequency and/or mode – and prepare the report that will be consolidated within the region and then sent back up the line. Note: In order not to unduly excite those who are not aware of the COMEX, only real information should be reported. Following is a list the items (with possible conditions) that will be requested:
   Power: Fully functional, brownout, rolling or partial blackouts, complete outage    Water: Full service, service in parts of county only, contaminated, no service    Sanitation: Fully functional, service in parts of county only, no service    Medical facilities: Fully functional, partial service due to facilities, partial service due to personnel, facilities max’ed out, none available due loss of personnel or infrastructure    Communications: Fully functional, partial service, no service    Transportation: Fully functional, service in parts of county only, no service
Unless there is something actually going on, report everything as fully functional. The condition of one or more of these might not be known, that’s okay, report what is known; reports from other hams may fill in the missing data. Hams can report on any county or city that they have first-hand knowledge of.
MARS Region Three is the same as FEMA’s Region Three and includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. According to the FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) code list there are 245 counties and 42 independent cities within our region. Virginia has 95 of those counties and all but one of the cities.

Optimum height for such a weapon would be 312 miles above Kansas city.
The satellite NK launched on Feb 6 of this year is currently at about 311.6 miles altitude in orbit.

If planes would fall out of the sky after an EMP hit there is one sure way to get that radar hole fixed: Have all the airline companies refuse to fly until it’s fixed.

Interesting thought. There was definitely something screwy with that whole thing - given that Obama called the Iranians to have them come “help”. It was obviously a planned meeting/transfer of SOME kind, and probably a pretty major one, to have Obama involved.
The rich have been investing in bunkers for a while. I’m thinking Obama wouldn’t have to be in DC when an EMP hits. He could always get a military plane from the southern hemisphere to pick him up and take him either to DC in the bunker, or to someplace in the southern hemisphere where he could be safe and still command the military while “clean-up” was being done in the US. He’s already planning to spend November and December in the southern hemisphere so that was when I suspected he’d have his communist (NK) and/or Islamist (Iran) buddies do this hit against the US. But it could probably be any time.
If planes would fall out of the sky, the candidates would have PERSONAL reasons to demand that hole be fixed, beyond simple care for all the rest of us... I wonder if they comprehend the situation THEY are in.

But finding a safe place to land could be difficult with no ATC, especially if it’s at night. If the fuel and/or glide run out where there are mountains all bets are off.
Maybe some pilots here could give a better idea of what would happen.

That article talked about the technology used to put this in orbit being the same technology that would get an ICBM delivered to the US. But an ICBM would at some point cross into our radar, wouldn’t it? An ICBM could be detected and shot down?
Dunno if our star wars is good enough to shoot down an ICBM at this point.
I think the EMP capability would be far more damaging. After their successful H bomb test, NK media bragged about having the ability to destroy the US with a single blow.
Yeah, I think the EMP attack is definitely the way they’d want to go. Maybe they’ll have to keep putting these satellites up there in the hopes of having everything ready by November or December. I wonder if the Iranian satellite with the polar orbit is functional.
If we’ve won the lottery on this one and NK can’t hit us yet, we would have to be idiots to waste this chance to cover that radar hole.

And we may be approaching that point because in 2011 China and Russia joined together to work on a financial system that would withstand US economic annihilation. They’ve recently added South Africa to that coalition because they have gold and the financial system could be based on gold rather than being a fiat-based system like ours that is failing so badly. The role of South America in giving Iran and NK a way to detonate a nuke exploiting our lack of south-facing radar is critical. After that report that stopped, and they switched to having direct flights from SYRIA... Iran has been radicalizing South America for Islam, and what Venezuela does is launders these terrorists into identities that people wouldn’t suspect and then sends them up to us.
It is NOT coincidence that Obama will be spending November and December with his allies who have been carrying out the work to dismantle the USA.
Thanks to Bill Clinton, China knows how to put a satellite into orbit. When they want NK to have the capability of blowing us away, they will make sure NK has a satellite that doesn’t tumble. They may be withholding that so far because they don’t trust Kim Jong UN to hold his finger on the trigger until the right time.
Kevin Freeman suggests that China and/or Russia may deliberately collapse the US economy when they think it will fit their long-term interests best, rather than waiting until we just die under our own weight.
