Paglia was published in Mother Jones, too, once upon a time. Salon was founded by David Talbot, who was formerly an editor at Mother Jones. He championed Paglia’s acerbic feminism at MJ, and brought her with him to Salon.
Maybe the CPO (Chief Political Officer) was on vacation that week...

A bit of education: masculine hairy male queers are called “bears” and you can’t recognize them, either.
And for both genders, homosexuals having masculine/feminine characteristics exist, of course, in approximately equal numbers. They pair up, you know.
