I have openly spoke out against it. All a subsidy is, is taking money out of my wallet. There is no free lunch. If hippies want to try it on their own dime, then go for it.
Dont confuse a “utility” with any sort of private business. Utilities are regulated and guaranteed a profit. Most of their financial regulatory models are based on cost+reasonable profit margin with an investment recapture component. In short any requirement that adds to cost or investment will result in higher profits.
So the game is for utilities to cry foul so as to immunize themselves from the inevitable money making rate hikes.
