It's puzzling that so many Americans are choosing to arm themselves at a time when the FBI tells us violent crime and property crime have been falling dramatically for two decades.Puzzling to you perhaps, but crime isn't the only concern we have.

Tell us again, why do police officers, Secret Service agents, and bodyguards carry pistols?
A person with a pistol, and TRAINED in the proper use of it, is much safer than somebody who is unarmed.

In search of handgun permit holders, I drove out to the Texas Firearms Festival Because:
1) You aren't one.
2) You don't know any.
3) You don't know anybody who knows any.
4) You're probably at least six degrees of separation removed from any.
5) IOW, you're a miserable, whinging pansy. GFY.

This guy may also be confusing cause and effect. A big part of the crime drop is that ownership of firearms has increased over the past two decades.

Does wearing a life vest make you safer? Only when you’re on a boat.

Carrying a pistol makes those who would victimize me less safe. And that’s just what it’s for, boys and girls.

“the FBI tells us violent crime and property crime have been falling dramatically for two decades”
And gun sales and CCW licenses have been going up.......what a coincidence.

That this writer does not see the possibility of cause-and-effect in those two facts tells us a lot about the reasoning skills of the writer, and what it tells us is not flattering.

where firearms fanciers get to shoot everything they see. Everything they see? This dude's delusional ...
"Firearms fanciers" generally restrict themselves to inanimate targets, game animals, and vermin.
"[E]verything they see" is more the purview of Chicago gang-bangers and Baltimore hoodrats.

I'm not saying that being armed is gonna save your life, but at least you have an effective tool to mount some kind of defense. Wearing a seat belt does not guarantee that you will survive a vehicle collision, but I wear one because it is basic safety equipment. The gun I carry is also basic safety equipment that I wear when going out, no different than wearing a seat belt.

MAKE you safer .... no.
But it does give you more options should an unsafe situation arise.

So you need to take my gun because of the epidemic of violence but I don’t need it because there isn’t actually an epidemic of violence...
I need my gun BECAUSE you want to take it.
