A few weeks ago in a nearby down a nut with a hatchet took a wipe at a customer and then went after the cashier - cutting the cashier.
The cashier is fine now. The nut is dead due to the CCW customer. So there are two votes in the “makes me safer” column.
Yes. We are definitely winning. Slowly, here in the People's Republik of Kalifornia.
One need only imagine a similar article from twenty years ago. The article might have focused on how important it would be to study guns as if gun-owning is a disease.
Or the article could have interviewed mothers whose children died from unfortunate gun-owning negligence. Instead it simply related the same things I have heard in virtually every gun course I have taken; basically, that you will be required to fully justify even taking your gun out of its holster should the occasion arise.
I was especially impressed by the anecdote of the shooter who killed a car-jacker who it turned out WAS reaching for a gun. What a great shoot.
What they don't know would fill volumes the size of the Encyclopedia Britannica millions of times!
Yes. Yes it does...
Three strikes for you, Mr. Author.
(1) npr
(2) “It’s puzzling that so many Americans are choosing to arm themselves at a time when the FBI tells us violent crime and property crime have been falling dramatically for two decades.” ====> Sure thing honey, you also believe all the gubmint Narrative (except when an Rep was in charge)
(3) “....where firearms fanciers get to shoot everything they see.” ====> Deceptive ‘reporting’, those firearms fanciers didn’t shoot you, did they? Hmmmm?
OK. I read it.
I still think the author is a miserable, bed-wetting liberal pansy who needs a counseling session with R. Lee. Ermey ...
But you’re right. For NPR, it wasn’t bad at all.
Yep, guns being one of the things they know least about too.
This herd of puzzled asses have blindly got the cart before the horse. The violent crime rate is dropping in certain areas (but not in others) precisely because those areas are where personal carrying of concealed firearms by ordinary citizens is permitted. It has not improved in "gun-free" zones--like public schools, parks, or ball-parks--target-rich precincts into which firearms are not supposed to be brought (but are, anyway).
What a bunch of ninnies!
TC;
I beg to differ- indeed being armed does make you safer-why you ask? Because once armed with a lethal force tool, the carrier will be more aware, vigilant and likely avoid places and situations where the likelihood of a tough situation is higher.
If the now armed person does not change his venue and attitude, then he is probably more likely to be involved in something he won’t enjoy, nor perhaps remain free or innocent over.....
Anyway,
Regards
“Does Carrying A Pistol Make You Safer?”
Dumb question. If it’s a LEO or an honest, law-abiding citizen, then YES.
If it’s a criminal, or a liberal, then NO.
While I would agree in general, the situational awareness does not always follow being armed. It SHOULD, but it does not always happen that way.
My biggest example are those that purse (or pack) carry. This can be briefcase backpack fanny pack, etc. Many times, the CCW holder will put their firearm into such a conveyance and leave it there. Over time, often very quickly, they forget that the firearm is even present. Witness the number of people who “carry” into a secure checkpoint and get buzzed for having a firearm. I see it happen regularly.
Why read it?
It’s NPR.
It’s from NPR. I haven’t even glanced at the article and I can already guess the conclusion.
Well, in the Will Smith/Cardell Hayes imbroglio, I’d say it worked out 50/50.
One is alive, and one is dead.
Both had handguns in their possession apparently.
They're still clueless about guns, though.
A person with a pistol, and TRAINED in the proper use of it, is much safer than somebody who is unarmed.
While I agree with your premise in general, I don't think that your examples are necessarily the best.
Right! BLM, OWS, $20T us Debt, another realestate and market bubble, and the racism caused by Obama and his son Treyvan!
It is about societal wide dare-to-challenge deterrence. In a society with guns, criminals have to think it through. And the argument of duels, samurais and escalation of violence and firepower is false: criminals who play these games never last long, because criminals usually play the angle of the steady income with low risk.mthere is nomway racketeering, drug deal payment enforcement and shark loan making can be efficient in a gun society.
