Both schools transfer profits from their athletic department's operations to their general funds, and those dollars are not accounted for in the news outlet's calculation.

A rather important detail to stick as the last sentence in this hatchet job.

They do the same in Alabama for some programs.

At UAB, about $7 million per year was coming from the general fund to fund their football program. After about 15 years, it adds up ($100,000,000+).

Then almost every other year we get to hear we need tax increases for education.
