“The letter has no phone number,no Internet site, and no street address.Just a P.O. box in Delaware. Anybody ever hear of this company or had dealings with them?”

Yes you can call 1-800-isa-scam and reach them. Their website is www.weareidentitytheives.com

I never do that. I want to see who has my info and for what reason. Keep my enemies closer. I still do not just throw them in the can. I have a box in my basement next to the wood burner for that.

Well..., it might be legit. Some credit cards give the customer the ability to earn points by paying for utility service via the card. It all depends on what the context of the credit offer was.

Use the internet to research this $#!+. The internet is your friend.....

“Pre-approved applications are common”

maybe RECEIVING the application is pre-approved, but the actual credit is NEVER pre-approved. That’s why they send the application. Pre-approved credit is pretty similar to “you may have won” the National Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.

Get a Sharpie.
Write F*CK YOU! on the app and mail it back.

Sounds like a scam letter. Throw it out to be safe. ( interestingly, that’s the same bank that refused to let us open a savings account and when we asked they claimed we didn’t live at the place we’d been at for over 27 years. Brilliant—NOT! All they had to do to verify us was open the phone book, we were listed.

It is NOT a application for applying for the card. It is a official (looking) letter saying we need more info to complete your application. Like I stated in previous posts. I never even heard of this company let alone apply for a card.

“Barclays Bank is real. But, that does doesn’t mean the letter is legit.

Pre-approved applications are common, but I have never heard of a demand for a utility bill.”

What JL said. Our American Airlines AAdvantage MasterCards are thru Barclays. But take care as this does sound like a scam.

Scammers will pose as legitimate companies and try to get your personal info to use. It is a good idea to occasionally get a credit report, even if you don’t use credit cards that much. A credit report could show if there is any odd activity, like a scammer opening a credit card in your name. I would not be paranoid about getting the occasional scam letter - if you get lots and lots of scam offers, then you are on a scammer’s list somehow.

I have 2 Barclay card accounts. One is a Frontier card.

I get Discover ads all the time. I shred them.

Holy Crap. I called the number from a link one poster gave me and Barclaycard said someone did try to open a account on-line on May 22. They thought it was suspicious and sent us the letter. They flagged the app and gave us the number to Trans Union to put a security freeze on our credit.

They exist and were very credible during the 80’s. Now I’ve no idea.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barclays

Getting unsolicited credit card applications is kind of standard junk mail.

I shred them and call them up and ask to be removed from their marketing lists. It actually works most of the time.

Mea culpa.
If you didn’t fill out an app, then there’s obviously no app they’re trying to complete, and have no need of one of your utility bills, or any other document from you.
Is there a prepaid envelope for returning the requested utility bill? If so, write FY! on it and mail it back on their dime.
I got those years ago, and after doing the mailback on each, they stopped.
Also works well on GOP solicitations, AARP crap etc.

Just got off the phone with a Barclay Rep. Someone did try to get credit on-line using my Social on May 22. They marked the app as fraudulent.
