People can overcome their names. Harry Baals, for example, became mayor of Ft. Wayne, IN. They even named a street after him.
Unfortunately, the street signs kept getting stolen so the name was changed to ‘H. W. Baals Drive’.

A few weeks later they both had started the paper work.
One man chose George and the other...I forget.
If I were to live over there and my name meant something dreadful, I would be the FIRST to become MayLin or something similar.
“Gay Street” signs keep getting stolen where I live.

Hugh Jass has a lot to overcome.

I had heard but never saw —the USN ship USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887) was ‘always’ getting the 2 B’s painted over.
Not much today (other than defacing a ship) but in late 50s/early 60s that could be considered somewhat ‘risque’
another one used to be Fort Rucker...you could do ‘wonders’ with the “R” especially when a gal answered but
in Morse code an R
is dit dah dit and and F
is dit dit dah dit
and while I am on the subject an A
is dit dah and a U
is dit dit dah,
again a silly little dit could turn a champ into a chump.
Maybe Degenerates should have gone with ta tas????
I knew a guy named Dick Ball who lived on Cox street.
No lie!
