Croatia have been charged over the crowd disturbances that marred the latter stages of their Euro 2016 match against the Czech Republic on Friday.

Flares were thrown on the pitch and fighting broke out in the Croatian end during their 2-2 Group D draw.

The referee Mark Clattenburg was forced to stop the game with four minutes left while a steward was almost hit by a firecracker, as was Croatian goalscorer Ivan Perisic.

Croatia’s coach, Ante Cacic, described the individuals responsible for the trouble as “sports terrorists” and European football’s governing body has now confirmed the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the national federation.

What a cruel, cruel thing, they busted 12 on terrorism charges in Belgium, accuse them of plotting to attack fans watching the match vs. Ireland.

That happens in 3rd world countries;

GOAL! Belgium 1-0 Ireland (Lukaku 48)

That’s how to atone for a terrible performance against Italy! Lukaku receives the ball at the edge of the area from De Bruyne following a rapid Belgian counter-attack, and the striker takes one touch and strokes it expertly past Randolph and into the bottom corner. The non-award of a penalty to Ireland has just got more sickening.

GOAL! Belgium 2-0 Ireland (Witsel 61)

That surely secures victory for Belgium and it’s frustratingly easy from an Irish viewpoint. After a steady move, Meunier swept in a ball from the right wing and Witsel ran on to it from deep as Irish defenders dozed. Randolph couldn’t stop the powerful downward header.

Witsel makes it 2-0 for Belgium against Ireland.

GOAL! Belgium 3-0 Ireland (Lukaku 70)

That’s torn it. Clark dives in for a ball he;s never going to win. Hazard scurries down the right and centres for the unmarked Lukaku, who sidefoots calmly into the net from 12 yards.

This is more of the Belgium team people wanted to see and admittedly, Ireland may not be the most stiff of competition. But Belgium was a bit on the quiet side in the World Cup though they did “okay”.

DeBruyne is all over, pronounced DeBrenner it sounds like, just call him Red.

It doesn’t look like the ‘boys in green’ will even get a goal but they have an important 1 point going into their last game.

You can sort of start to visualize what kinds of matchups we might see in the Round of 16:

I sort of hope Croatia can advance as at least the 2nd team in their group, I think they can make some noise. Darn shame what happened.

German is worried that finishing first might see them play Italy who they have not beaten in a Euro match.

Belgium did a good job of getting behind the Irish defense.

Ireland with manager Jack Charlton (I wonder if that is the difference) actually had good teams in 1990 and 1994; one looks for them to recapture that magic some day but I don’t know? That team had Tony Cascarino, Paul Magrath, Pakki Bonner; a fairly good team.

I’m going with Hungary to nick it over Iceland. Should be a good match.

"German is worried that finishing first might see them play Italy who they have not beaten in a Euro match."

Italy would have to lose to Ireland though for that to even have a chance of happening, wouldn't they? I don't think that will happen.

I don't know if I see that happening at all, Germany (Group C) vs. Italy (Group E), at least in the round of 16. I'd have to study it, it doesn't look like it would happen.

I think it has made it better, 24 teams; plus for some Euros, 2 countries host it (Austria/Switzerland Poland/Ukraine or Netherlands/Belgium) so only 14 made it in. That group last time, I think Italy, France, Sweden and Romania was fairly blah, Ireland were not too good last time, they are still better this time.

Ronaldo wouldn’t even exchange jerseys with Iceland. That was pretty rude. I understand his frustration some but still.

Portugal are just a top 15, maybe top 10 team but not good enough to win it all. Fine team nonetheless, I can’t understand why they’d bring that guy Pepe after acting so asinine in that World Cup game vs. Germany. He should be off their selection for always.

GOAL! Iceland 1-0 Hungary (G Sigurdsson 40)

Gylfi Sigurdsson calmly waits for Kiraly to show his hand, then slots the ball to the keeper’s right. Iceland lead!
