“The slow death of Romanian football”

Yes, Romania has had problems but in Hagi, a lot of people think he was one of those fantastic special footballers, as Bulgaria had Stoichkov but without a special footballer as Wales now has Bale, they are just an average team.

It’s interesting how the article talks about corruption and the Croatians may well have a corruption problem but I can’t really tell what the problem is with them.

I’ve followed Romanian Football since the early 90’s.
Romania has the same problem all Eastern European teams have when competing in the European Championships - which is much more difficult than the WORLD CUP.

Their domestic leagues are god-awful & full of corruption, their good talent jumps ship at the first sign of an abroad offer with dreams of millions, and once they are abroad they don’t get any playing time in the more competitive leagues since all the good talent is usually “Home Grown”.

About the only team worth their salt from Eastern Europe is Croatia. If you consider Czech Republic as “eastern Europe”, they are also consistent in International Football.

What's funny is that Stoichkov now does Spanish Commentary on Univision, didn't expect to find him there.
