Sorry for the confusion. I am not questioning the competence of the police. I just ink the police brass have a cover-their-ass approach to situations like this.

And they also have a very statist way of dealing with this by making people believe they need thousands of police officers for their own protection. If people knew how ineffective even the best police officers can be in these situations, they'd be clamoring for the right to carry their own military-grade weapons in public.

Why not? The police are there to enforce the law. If the bad guys have military grade weapons, why shouldn’t the good guys have them? All police should get combat training. It is always better to prepare for the worst(combat situation) and hope for the best(peaceful streets). This is why it sickens me when a lightly training soldier can take out a dozen police. I also think fat/unfit police should either get the desk duty or get out. You don’t see obese soldiers running around.
