Oil's biological origin is likely from something like plankton. Though I do think there is a case to be made for abiotic oil. For example there is methane in space. The Gas giants - Jupiter, Saturn ,etc are almost all methane in gas form, liquid form, slush form & in solid form. Also other hydrocarbons have been found in interstellar clouds and every year radio & optical astronomers find more complex hydrocarbons out there.
