Ok, fair enough. I never had college algebra, in engineering school we went straight to single variable calculus freshman year, with multivariable and diff e-qs sophomore. They expected good knowledge of algebra, trig, and general pre-calculus mathematics going in.

I only had HS Algebra I, so when I went to college, I had to take College Algebra I and II, then I took Calculus I. Trig was a prerequisite for Calc II, but I talked them into letting me take in concurrently.

I never had HS geometry, and that slowed me down a bit in Calc I. I studied extra hard in Calc I, so Calc II was a breeze. The students who just memorized the formulas had trouble, but I did not.

Calc III was a challenge, because I don't have good spatial vision. Really enjoyed diffEQ.

A person needs to know Algebra to be able to do Calculus, so this change makes no sense to me, unless they are just accepting the HS equivalent classes as meeting the requirements for the prerequisite
