If the country ever breaks apart, a weak National defense force would be easier to defeat.
That thought has occurred to me more than once. I believe, however, that liberals would fight tooth and nail against it, and would suddenly discover a new purpose for the military to stop it at all costs.
It also occurs to me that if they country ever did break up, others outside would take advantage of that sudden split, and the weakness of our forces. I'm sure you can build the rest of that scenario.
