2016 Nevada State Airgun Field Target - Grand Prix Match Report

A link to our match report for match held weekend before last. It's pretty wordy and has a lot of pictures. I'm posting primarily to reach banglist members and get folks in the shooting sports acquainted with a sport that offers the opportunity to learn and practice the art of precision shooting via weapons that are amenable to shorter ranges and lower muzzle energies.

While airgun sports stretch out to 200+ yards, Field Target is limited to 20 fpe (US) on targets set from 10 to 55 yards (10 to ~100 freestyle).

While you can go nuts on a rig (my open class rifle setup rivals my most expensive powder burners), you can get into the sport with a decent spring gun or low end Pre Charged Pneumatic (PCP) like the Benjamin Marauder (of which well tuned examples play well with $5k setups).

You've probably got a Field Target club within 100 miles of you. Clubs usually run a match a month from about March to November. Grand Prix level matches qualify entrants for the national Grand Prix of which your best 3 scores of however many you enter are counted for the running.

Hope readers interest will be piqued. Hope this doesn't incur HGs wrath ;-) (mods, axe if I'm doing it wrong)

I used to have a Feinwerkbau 300S and shoot matches at the club I was in. Fun. :-)

I did not know that there was a match for Nv. this week.

I too am into airgunning [big time too] And was on the 2013 season of American Airgunners.

Can you tell me about your “herd”. My collection is as follows;
Hatsan AT44sQE [long] in .25, Hatsan Model 125 [mech spring] in .25, Hatsan Model 95 Vortex drive (gas spring) in .25, Hatsan Alpha Striker “Youth” [mech spring] in .177, Benj. Model 392 .22 multipump, Crossman 1322 multipump [Backpacker build up from pistol to carbine]
I look to my airguns for small to med sized game in a grid down situation/s. Because I am a prepper as well.

I'm too old and shaky to invest in all new equipment and train to the levels I would be happy with, but it if I was ten years younger, I'd be all over airgun FT.

As it is, I plink with my HW30S/Leupold 3-9x33 AO mil-dot reticle combo and live vicariously via reading Airgun World.

You could always plop a 12X on that gun and shoot hunter piston class!

To: Axenolith; All

We’ve struck the first gold this morning down in Rio. It was in the Women’s 10 meter rifle.
She is; Virginia Thrasher
Event: Three-position rifle, air rifle
Olympic Experience: None
Hometown: Springfield, Va.
Shooting Success: Three-time Virginia state smallbore medalist; led West Virginia to an NCAA team title and was individual champion in smallbore and air rifle
Bet You Didn’t Know: She also holds more than 20 USA Shooting and National Rifle Association records and was named the top performer at the NCAA championships last spring. And is the youngest member competing at age 19.
She beat out the Chinese shooter [age 34 & one of the oldest shooters too] with a “Bull” [10.4].

I’ll post more up when I can get it. BTW it is on [Direct TV channel 202]
