There is no disagreement, discussion, or debate over the fact that Captain Khan was a competent, courageous, and committed hero of whom his parents and all Americans should be immensely proud.

Yes there is disagreement. Captain Khan did something stupid by lining his men up next to the perimeter fence in a war zone, and getting them (and himself) killed when the car bomb on the other side of the fence blew up. IEDs were a known problem in that area.

Considering the father's viewpoint on muslims fighting muslims on behalf of the USA, this could have been a planned act to get the son on the right side of his father and the right side of Islam.

It also could have been extremely poor situational awareness. It was not competence.
