The WMAL morning drive show talked to a police representative a couple of days after the murder. The representative said that there were two robberies within a couple of blocks of where Rich was shot that same night. The location was “near Howard University and is often a scene of robberies.” The Rep said that Rich may have fought back, thus leading to him being shot.
Doesn't make sense to me. No self-defense wounds were reported. He was shot in the back (not front) which isn't consistent with trying to stop someone intent on defending himself. No property was taken. Makes no sense.
He did have some facial injuries and a scraped knee, so there may have been a fight. If the perp had the gun out it is more likely he would have been shot then, and in the front of the body.
Of course he may have been able to break free, and the perp shot after him, more in revenge than in an act to commit robbery. Possible, but how likely that the robber ran away after the shooting without taking anything.
