Mom would have it on the radio and I gotta be honest, the only thing I remember is marching around the breakfast (kitchen) table as a youngster in the late 40’s. Once I started going to school, it started too late for me to listen.

Funny story...that kitchen table (hard rock maple) my folks used all their lives. My sister and I grew up around it and did our homework on it. All serious family discussions took place at it. It’s mine now. I brought it with me from NYC to WV. The chair seats have been re-done over the years, but it’s still got the same pads on the tabletop and I use it daily. They DON’T make things the way they used to!

I just made a pilgrimage clear up to WA state to drive our beautiful old maple dining room furniture back down here in a rented moving van. What a flood of memories everyday now that my step-mom is in a memory care home and doesn’t remember anything anymore. Oct. 1 is my 75th and I wonder how much longer my memory machine will function properly before all the lights go out...

I used to listen to the breakfast club and Minnie Perl on the WLS Barn Dance show on my crystal set radio hooked to about 300 feet of electric fence wire running from the peak of the barn to my bedroom window! Those were the days, my FRiend, we thought they’d never end!!!
