Time Warner Cable versus ATT Uverse
wally_bert

Posted on 10/05/2016 12:53:52 PM PDT by wally_bert

ATT was in my neighborhood today promoting U-verse.

I haven't had any experience with it and have been on Time Warner for a long time. Is Uverse any better than Time Warner?

Time Warner over the past year has been a disappointment in a lot of areas.

I'm more interested in data and internet than TV and plan to keep the POTS line.

ATT offers a dedicated 24 meg line. TWC is 20ish and a lot of times I don't think it's that much. It's probably shared through the area. I've run speed tests and got anywhere from 15-19.

Mother in law had WOW, hated it. Bad service, couldn’t get someone to check out an issue for a week...

Went w/Att, very happy.

Be afraid, be very afraid of ATT. Service sucks and reliability fluctuates. And the contract, that damn contract.

That’s what I’ve heard. And playing the specials is exactly what we are considering. Thanks for the information.

I've used both. ATT service sucked, but the system worked fine at my apartment complex. However when I tried to use it at the house I bought it was slow an unreliable. Turns out how good your service is based on how close you are to the substation. Since then I've had time Warner and I love it.

Personally these days I am watching dusty old VHS tapes.

They’re about the only TV I can find that does not bombard me with Hillary ads.

If your interest is Internet, go with uVerse.

They drop fiber into your home and can crank it up to any speed you need or want.

But their TV is expensive, like all of them.

I install ATT/DirecTV. I would urge you to go with DirecTV for their TV side and only use the ATT for Internet. You will not have the picture quality with any other non satellite carrier you will experience with DirecTV.....period. If it is installed correctly, DirecTV blows the competition away. The Genie system is fantastic. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

AT&T never tells the truth. They lie about availability, service speed and the price of service. I have had Directv for 20 years. I am ready to switch to another service solely because AT&T now owns Directv and has changed their service to AT&T’s own crappy standards. I will never deal with AT&T again if I can avoid them.

Go with Time Warner/Spectrum. They have more bandwidth. ATT is using for the most part their telephone lines and the speed is slow compared to what cable can give you. Read ATT fine print. The one I saw on a tv ad said 1.55 was their minimum guarantee. I would double triple check with ATT about the speed and what their real guarantee is.

Get the lowest speed they offer which I thick is 25mbs. They will raise it over time as mine did to 59mbs without raising the price.
I use Earthlink thru Time Warner and for the first introductory 6 months it was $29.95 even. Afterward it was $41.95 even. Time Warner was more expensive for some odd reason. Same line. With internet only you can get a ROKU box and get Sling TV for $25/month and get most of cable tv plus many more channels.

The bottom line is this, you have to ask people in your area, because the local infrastructure is a very important consideration. In my area, Comcast sh*ts all over local DSL (Uverse type), thats because they have run all new pretty lines. DSL is lagging badly and the service is not as reliable. So it really depends.

Time Warner Cable versus ATT Uverse

I tried UVerse for a couple of years, but gave up in disgust and went back to Comcast. When I first got UVerse it worked well, but over time the reliability dropped considerably. It got so that it was dropping a dozen times a day for various periods of time, after which you'd have to go reboot and reset various items. Having been in IT, I was familiar with networks and troubleshooting so I fixed things myself quite a bit, but it got to the point it was almost a full time job. I had numerous technicians out to check the system and it would usually run well for a while and then the problems would resume. I switched equipment, but it didn't make any difference. It always seemed to me that somewhere along the line someone might be rebooting part of the system, whenever the mood struck them. AT&T denied that this was the case. The "Help Desk" is in the Phillipines so when you called there was the inevitable language problems, but they could also remotely reboot your system, so perhaps disgruntled employees?

You don't have a lot of options for high-speed internet service.

Just stick with cable. You're going to get screwed no matter what anyway, so you might as well pay a little more for higher Mbps.

Get the local TV package and you'll get a deal like I have.

For $74/mo (+$75/mo for CATV), from Commiecast, I get this on a cable in SE PA:

DISH is the only other choice, and it's garbage here.

I had Time Warner for years. Then in 2011 I switched to ATT U-Verse and never had any trouble but wanted to get TWC back. Then a few months back I switched back to TWC and I have to say I’m going to go back to U-Verse asap. TWC just sucks in comparison. I will say internet wise TWC does beat ATT for speed (here) but for cable u-verse is much better.

I’ve had AT&T Uverse for Internet and email for five years, and it’s been nearly flawless for my purposes. My cost is $57 p/month.

FWIW When we were looking to apply for a package, either cable, or whatever we asked about.

Had some phone problems here, and an AT&T tech came out to find the problem, and repair. While he was here I asked his opinion of the various programs available, and he told me...the AT&T tech told me he has Verizon FIOS, because it was a better quality, and the price was right.

Again FWIW.
