I said the sun BASICALLY stays put, as in on a daily basis from our perspective. I also acknowledged in a followup that the sun orbits around the galaxy. I’ll add here that the galaxy itself is in motion within the Local Group of galaxies, which in turn is in motion with respect to other galaxy groups, and “Super Groups”.

Does no one take Einstein seriously? All motion is relative. It all depends on your frame of reference, and no frame of reference is privileged.

Except perhaps for the microwave background radiation, which some cosmologists view as a universal reference frame for detecting absolute, as opposed to relative, motion.

For example,, the motion of our Milky Way galaxy is seen within the microwave background radiation map as blue-shifted on one side, red-shifted on the other. This is usually subtracted out when presenting the map.

Our sun is moving quite rapidly.

In its orbit around the MW Galaxy, it's moving at something like 130 miles per second. Meanwhile, the earth is traveling approximately 18 miles per second (~66,000 miles/hr) as it orbits round the sun.

Actually, I suppose the "smiley" could have been interpreted as smugness.

It’s because everything from the east wants to go to the west.

For example, the early settlers and those looking to find gold. :)

This article goes to the personal experience I relate directly below.

If these two items DON’T move you to vote on 11/8 for the guy who spent his life in a PRIVATE SECTOR that DEMANDS EFFICIENCY and COMMON SENSE for survival, check into the nearest hospital so they can scan for a BRAIN! That this same guy spent over a decade perfecting the phrase “YOU’RE FIRED” has the bureaucrats and petty tyrants in DC WETTING THEMSELVES and is reason numero uno to put him in the White House. That alone would be all the reason I’d need to vote for The Donald!

While stationed near DC in the Air Force in the 60s, Sharon and I visited an aunt and uncle in College Park, Md.

Each morning I noticed that my uncle came down to breakfast and peered out the window at his neighbors’ driveways. He was a private sector electronics engineer who was heavily involved in the development of the first instrument landing systems for airports. Nearly all his neighbors held government jobs.

I later asked him about his routine of looking at their driveways. He responded that he was always happy to see their cars still there as it meant that they weren’t downtown wasting office supplies and making life miserable for the rest of us.

After spending 30+ years trying to make a living in what little remains of the private sector here, I fully understand why he felt the way he did.

And can someone tell me why, when there is some lower severity situation or natural event, the government sends out word that only ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES SHOULD REPORT FOR “WORK?” It begs the question WHY THE HELL DOES A TAXPAYER FUNDED BUREAUCRACY EVEN HAVE “NON-ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES”??

...Bachner and Ginsberg argue that Washington’s bureaucrats have grown too dismissive of the people they are supposed to serve. Bachner and Ginsberg recently sent around an informal survey to selected members of this technocratic class, and the results, they say, were shocking. “Many civil servants expressed utter contempt for the citizens they served,”...

On a daily basis, from a human perspective, the sun moves around the earth, as people thought for thousands of years before Copernicus. When Einstein said that no frame of reference is privileged, he meant it. There is no “from the roof of the Superdome” perspective that is privileged.

Right. But in REALITY, it's (of course) the other way around. That was the point I was jokingly making.

As for "on a daily basis, from a human perspective", I was referring to the unobservable movement of the sun within the galaxy.

But when you say that in reality, it’s the other way around, you are privileging a frame of reference. Copernicus was wrong but so was Galileo. There is no privileged frame of reference.
