Everyone comes to our house for the good free food and booze and beautiful tablescapes. It usually costs us between $500 to $1000 to accommodate all the family members.

I certainly understand the situation you describe. My own family gathering this Thanksgiving will be five people fewer than in the past. I’ve decided I’m not going to worry about it. Life goes on.
