Many people have a deep hunger to believe in something greater than themselves. For centuries that need was amply filled in Western civilization by Christianity. But the modern left has done an thorough job of demonizing Christianity and it is visibly passing away from public life. I am 62 and remember prayer in school and common people being very religious. The difference between being in public then and seeing Christian symbols and witnessing people being observant in restaurants by saying grace or holding hands for a moment before eating and, say, the mall or eating out today is stark and startling if you have clear memories. Not only has the Left removed Christianity from public life, it has succeeded in making it uncool for the cognoscenti. (Cognoscenti as in, those who think they are morally superior and should tell the rest of us how to live, what to drive and whether we can have air conditioning.)
You simply can’t be accepted by the Left and act in any way Christian. If you were to offer grace at a dinner party you can be sure you won’t be invited back unless you have lots and lots of money.
62 here, and concur
I always thought the left was hostile to Christianity because it undermined their lust for power. I didn’t realize they hated it so much because they were playing for the other team.
