I agree with you that there has to be some proof that they were brought here at a young age, and it would be good to know if they were in school.

Our immigration system is a mess. If people who are here illegally are putting their children in public schools, why is that allowed? Why wouldn’t they be deported? Is proof of citizenship not needed when applying for public school?

No, schools can’t ask for proof of citizenship for kids to attend school. It’s against the law. Schools have to take illegals.
