I have never even seen one but have read a bit about it lately. It sounds like it is better in just about every way than the .308.

Now the .243 and 6mm Remington are probably both better than the 6.5. All of them require a very fast twist which many did not have until recently.

I don’t think so. Not until it becomes a NATO standardized round with widespread use and availability on par with the 7.62/.308. The .308/7.62 is just so widely available and so well supported right now that it doesn’t make sense to go with a 6.5 for a SHTF rifle. If the 6.5 ever becomes as widely available as the 5.56 or 7.62, it would be worth considering. just my $.02

Only when the number of 6.5’s exceeds the numbers of .308’s in circulation.

Never happen. Manufacturers always over run production on 5.56 and 7.62 mil ammo.

Specialty ammo is just too expensive.

Note: 6.5 cm would be an artillery round.

I’m not about to change calibers now,not after decades of shooting .308/7.62.My longest shot would be about 700 yards if SHTF,with most shots at 400-500 yards.

How much money would it take to buy the platform and 5,000 rounds?

I suspect the answer to that questions will also answer whether this is a better SHTF weapon.

I’m considering changing from .308 to .223 just based on ammo availability and price.

I am looking forward to trying my .308 Savage 10T out to 1K yards over the next week or two. Didn’t seem that much difference—the margin of difference seems more in personal opinion than results.

It is too tough to decide between the two, therefore buy both.

No way. Perhaps if it became as common as the .308 and found in looted armories and discarded by Federal thugs.

If they don’t sell the ammo at the gas station in Powers, OR, you don’t want it.

Of course. Just as soon as you see it normally on the shelf at Walmart or the gas station/bait Shop.
Before that, it’s a poor choice.

I think a necked down .308 to 6.5mm, call it a 6.5 ought eight, may have been just as good or better.

The Creedmore will be the next thing for me just because I would like to have one.

However for anyone who is preparing for a national crisis, the selection or selections should be made with two things in mind.

How easy is the ammo to get and how easy is it to trade for something you badly need and need quick.....like food or medical care.

For that I would suggest .308, .223, 9mm, .22 and 7.72x39.

One could buy 5,000 rounds of Creedmore, but if it was necessary to run for your life you would carry one or two of the above suggested weapons, not the Creedmore.

Because after you used up the Creedmore on you, you would not find more quickly.

OK, so you might pick up some dead guy's .308.....but that .308 might be why he is dead. Much better to keep your own.

I doubt that we will have a civil war but I can imagine a time when barter will be a means of survival and those who have nothing to barter stealing from those who do.

If the stupid dims do not allow Trump to solve our economic problems, we are destined to be another Venezuela.

The average guy would probably never see the difference in a bunch of high power cartridges.

From what I have read, the guys winning the long range matches are using the 6.5 Creedmore or now 6mms.

Not a substantial difference. So I have to aim a little higher to hit a thousand yard target. So I might squeeze one more round into a large magazine. Not enough benefit to change the whole platform & supply chain.

It’s a spectacular shooting round but you’d have to be crazy to think you could depend on getting it (ammo) in the field in a grid down situation plus you’re never going to see it fielded in a weapon that can provide suppressing fire.

If you’re in the place you’re going to make a stand/wait out bad stuff sure, have someone with one for long overwatch... as long as you decided to aquire about 1000 rounds before hand, and a reloading press.

I’ve got a Savage model 99 in .284 Win, very similar and I love it but with Winchester making ammo only every other year for about $50/box it’s strictly a game or ranch defense gun (I got about 200 rounds from hole in the wall stores in the country when it was out of production, many still have $7.25 stickers on them). When it comes time for a fight or to bug out though the M1A or the AR or the SKS is going over the shoulder because the ammo is going to be all over the place AND fungible (i.e. it will tend to hold a trade value). I’ll secure the Savage for another day or for some lucky schmuck rising out of the ashes a century later :-)

When was the last time you saw a Spam can of 6.5 Creedmore?

A worthy round if you hand reload and like the 1,000 yard line at Camp Perry, but as a SHTF round? Would go well with your .45 GAP Glock sidearm.

No ability to use the round as barter, no ability to use scrounged ammo from government sources (alive or dead,) and little hope to ever find components for reloading after your own stocks have been depleted.

Back in the early 90s I went through a period of financial difficulty. I was forced to sell over 200 guns along with a lot of other stuff.

I eventually stabilized my income but not enough to really stock up again. I did keep around 10 guns and have been able to add a few inexpensive ones so that I probably have nearly 20. Almost none of mine would be my first choice for any use but most of them are acceptable.

The idea of holding off hordes of evil doers in this rural area does not even cross my mind. I do intend to protect myself from any odd robber etc.

The only two high powered rifles I have left are a good 8mm 98 Mauser and a great shooting 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. Less than 200 rounds of 8mm Mauser and several hundred rounds of 6.5x55, most of it Lapua and maybe a hundred rounds of Norma. I will never need all of it.

Never!

I do have a few .22LR guns and many thousand rounds of .22. most of it would be used for trade. Also a couple of thousand rounds of .22 Mag.

I have a Marlin .22 mag bolt action and maybe 8, 10 round mags. The Marlin is nothing special except it happens to be extremely accurate. It would be my go to gun for most uses.

The one thing I need to really stock up on is food.
