Caliber?
The .222 hunting rifle can shoot exactly the same bullet a .223 does. And for that matter the exact same bullet as my .221 Fireball pistol.
Where do we get such dummies as judges?
Lethal? What the hell is a gun for?
They simply don’t get it. The 30-06 deer rifle is one hell of a lot more lethal than the .223.

Very good description of the “exceedingly lethal” .223 rifle.
At ranges up to 150 yards, 170 gr cast lead bullet loads with my 30-30 are much more lethal than the popular .223. And I can reload them for 12-15 cents per round.
“Where do we get such dummies as judges?”.......
They recruit them from journalism classes, news rooms, etc.

Are you buying the bullets? Purchased the primers and powder during the ammo bubble?
Casting your own bullets and with reasonable primer and powder prices it only was about 6 cents a round when I was doing it.
.223 is a fine cartridge. You can carry 3 of them for 1 30-30.
Add .218 Bee. An a hundred other rounds (yes I love that round for varmints)

Yes that ol lever action 3030 round is great in the brush as well where the speed and weight of 223 will only send it off in another direction once it hits a limb.
I just scored 1000 rounds of 147gr 762 the other day to feed my M1A for 51 cents a round. Gives me plenty (lil less than 5K) enough that for testing purposes I went down to my back tank and did some turtle thumping with them. Buzzards had a field day the following day.
I’ve owned a .223 “Varmint” rifle for over 50years. It is a Mauser Bolt Action. Great for small stuff.
