To: Chainmail

Did you get the much publicized speedy trip to a field hospital ? They always bragged that more US soldiers were saved because the average time from being wounded to getting medivac was 20-30 minutes. Just curious because that sure wasn’t the case in ‘68.

The factors that got me to the hospital within maybe 15 minutes were:

We were only 16 clicks southwest of Danang.

There were medevac birds in the air all day because the fighting was heavy in our area.

The medevac pilot had balls the size of grapefruit: he went into a very hot zone, guns on both sides firing, and stayed there until he had all of us aboard.

I was a lucky young man.
