Great series. Craig Johnson’s books are even better.

Yes, it was my first Netflix series. Re-watched the earlier episodes when it was on A&E. A&E lost out big time when they cancelled it. CAN NOT wait until September. Sad to see it ending.

Doc Martin was a good series, too. Never got to see how it ended. Last I’d seen was her leaving the doc.

Raney as Dash Goff, the writer in Designing Women:

“Yesterday, in my mind’s eye, I saw four women standing on a veranda in white, gauzy dresses and straw-colored hats. They were having a conversation. And it was hot. Their hankies tucked in cleavages where eternal trickles of perspiration run from the female breastbone to exotic vacation spots that southern men often dream about. They were sweet-smelling, coy, cunning, voluptuous, voracious, delicious, pernicious, vexing and sexing... these earth sister/rebel mothers... these arousers and carousers. And I was filled with a longing to join them. But like a whim of Scarlett’s, they turned suddenly and went inside, shutting me out with a bolt of a latch. And I was left only to pick up an abandoned handkerchief and savor the perfumed shadows of these women... these southern women. This Suzanne. This Julia. This Mary Jo and Charlene. Thanks for the comfort, Dash Goff... the writer.”

I turn on the closed caption for British shows.

Could the doctor series you have been watching be The Dr. Blake Mysteries? It’s on Netflix, and is a good series based in Australia. I watch a lot of British programming. I download a lot of it from UK torrent sites. Eventually some of them come to Netflix. To combat the accent problems, I started watching everything with the subtitles. I record all my regular TV programs, and watch all of them with closed captions. It really helps, and if you don’t understand something they say, you can rewind and check the subtitle out. I guess it’s a sign of old age to have to use subtitles and closed captioning, but it makes viewing a lot easier, especially with the DVD movies today. If you turn up the volume to hear what the characters are saying, you have to turn it back down when the loud music or special effects kick in.

A&E cancelled it but Netflix picked it up and produced more shows. Come September, get the free trial for Netflix and watch the entire thing.

Longmire is an excellent series, and based on the characters of the Longmire book series by Craig Johnson. If you haven’t watched it, “The Fall” is an excellent series. I believe there’s three seasons of it on Netflix. It’s a British-Irish production, and Gillian Anderson stars as DSI Stella Gibson, and Jamie Dornan as serial killer Paul Spector. I like to watch some of the foreign police series as well: French, Swedish, and Danish series are particularly good if you don’t mind watching them with subtitles.

"From what I understand, the producers hope to leave a positive memory of the series. That would be good."

Yes, that would be very good. I've been tempted to begin reading the Longmire books by Craig Johnson, but I already have so many books in my bookcase, that I'll never get to before I depart this earth.

I can try, don’t know what kind of bandwidth it uses. I’m on satellite and we get 12 GB a month.

Amen Brother! A lot of literary snobbery on FR. I dare anyone to read 'Junk Yard Dogs' and not laugh their ass off. If you are red state you know a family just like Craig depicts!

If you go to the “Ferg”s/ Adam Bartley’s Twitter account, (you don’t have to have an account) here; https://twitter.com/Adam_Bartley As you scroll down hit the Instagram links in his postings. He has tried to document the last season with all kinds of candid shots & videos. You can also hit the photo link on the left of the Twitter page. More funny stuff, especially the gif of him and Robert Taylor going through a door. This crew really liked working together and it shows.

Also “No Country for Old Men” at the Plaza Hotel. (A wonderful place to stay I might add). They have been filming movies in Los Vegas NM. since the Tom Mix days. There were three in production when I was there last summer.

Thanks for the link. What great comments, and awesome pictures. I’ve always believed that in order to have a successful series, writers have to establish the characters, and their relationships early on in the show...and they have to work well together as it makes their characters, and the stories they tell so much more believable and enjoyable to watch. I’m going to miss this series, and the people in it.

It's been renewed for two more seasons:

Doc Martin series 8: Martin Clunes comedy confirmed to return for final outing

They started filming in April. "Broadcast on ITV in the UK, AcornTV will premiere Series 8, consisting of eight episodes, in fall/winter 2017. Subscribers can continue to watch the first seven series anytime on Acorn TV."

Yes, it is The Dr. Blake Mysteries. That is a good idea to turn on the subtitles. I will try it this week. All three shows (Dr. Blake Mysteries, Father Brown, and Coroner) have good plots, no cussing or sex, and the violence is done off-screen. There is another one I like too, but it may not be for everyone, “Call the Midwife”. It takes place in London in the early 1960’s. There are story lines that reflect events of the late 50’s - early 60’s (Thalidomide babies for instance). Too bad more American made shows don't follow the guidelines the British use.
