VANITY--Finally Cut the Cord!

Posted on 07/04/2017 6:37:47 AM PDT by AbolishCSEU

Called today when my temporary discount ran out on Direct TV--bill jumped back up to $105+ a month. Ordered a UHF 80 mile antenna--live between Rochester and Syracuse NY. Probably going to get a rotor as well.

Hubby is a football fan, though. . .

FREE-DOM!!

With an antenna, your husband can still watch his local team. And if he really wants Monday night football at home, he may need a subscription service like Sling TV.

I was almost ready to cut the cord with DirecTV after paying way too much. Called to cancel. Customer retention has me at $28/month for 12 months with Sports pkg free for 6 months. Looks like I’ll cut the cord next year :)

Congrats to you!! Freedom from the mainstream morons is so wonderful as well as to know your money is not contributing to the acts of treason against our President.

Happy 4th to this great country and her citizens.

You won't regret it! Made that choice over five years ago now and saved thousands of dollars as a result.

I put up a 75 mile range antenna on a rotor myself and pick up TV stations out of Chicago, South Bend, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids and other places quite easily.

Truth is, there's quite a few channels however not so many "good" ones. More "shopping channels" and "religious" channels than anything else however channels like Me-TV, "Movies!" and others are pretty acceptable IMO.

I personally don't watch much TV anymore. I watch more Netflix on my iPad or Computer than anything else and typically only when I'm working on it/doing something. Beyond that I stream music quite a bit.

It takes a bit of getting used to, yes there is a "detox" period of not having hundreds of channels to go through only to find more crap than anything when having Satellite/Cable but it's worth it once the detox is over.

Been there, done that, never going back.

Dropped cable in January. It was an adjustment because I’m a news junky but after 30 days I realized it was all background noise. Rush has said this but I was already doing it. Quit listening to the news for 30 day and you will be much more positive. After all, good news is not news.

Oh and enjoy the extra $100 bucks in your pocket every month. It feels good !

If over the air TV can make it with just commercials, why do satellite/cable services charge so much?

(Because they can!!!)

I called Direct TV several mos ago and told them I could no longer afford the monthly premium so without a fight they offered me $12.95 per month for 12 months. Netflix is offering a $35 per month deal that must be killing them.

They had dropped me down to $60 a month for a year (we live in NYS) I work a full time job plus a job on the side and hubby works his own business now plus a part time gig so the only time we have to watch TV is when we pass out at night in the living room.

We do have a Roku and have been watching old episodes of DARK SHADOWS—which is really intriguing!

Got one and have been using it for several months now. We don’t watch much local TV or news BUT I’m thinking I’ll probably need a rotor for my new UHF antenna.

We live quite literally in a “ditch” near a swamp/rural area populated by dairy farms—10 miles away from a smaller city. I have a two story garage that I can mount the antenna on.

We also have XM accounts (hubby has a paid one as he is travelling from job site to job site) my came free with my newer vehicle. He enjoys the sports and Fox Business News

I had almost the exact same experience in the same area (Rochester, Syracuse) i cut the a cable and went with Roku and a $30 antenna. I don’t miss Direct TV at all. I pay $35 for PlayStation vue, $10 for Netflix, & $3 for Channel Pear. $48 total. I mostly watch OAN, Infowars, and network sports on the weekends...mainly golf. Congrats! You are giving the liberal media what they deserve...extinction.

ROKU = X-TV and Channel Pear
All that’s needed and you’re good to go.

This July 4 we are enjoying Explore.Org with live camera feeds of Alaskan brown bear on river rapids gorging themselves with salmon traveling upriver to spawn.

Nature as intended.
