As an avid scifi reader I believe that the space corps is a natural projection from the Navy, not the AF.

Basically it would be taking a ship (e.g., destroyer, carrier, etc) and putting it in space.

If you have a spaced based carrier why would a water based carrier be needed?

If we were just talking Fighters I could see the AF’s leadership, however foreseeable technology will not have single or 2 manned fighters doing a patrol around Saturn.

“Star Fleet” should be organized like the navy not the Air Force. How can you have an “air force” where there is no air? Navys have a tradition of exploration, air forces just drop bombs on things.

I thought submarine crews were suited to such a mission. Throw in Seals and Marines for the troops.

and they’d still need Marines to watch over their Captains.
