There’s a squirrel that’s been coming to my door for the past year and I feed it bread sometimes. I hadn’t given it any in a while, then I saw it chewing a hole in the screen of my window, and it got into my house after tearing off the tape I put over it...now it holds me hostage for bread.
It’s like welfare: once you start feeding them, they start to feel entitled to your stuff, and get pissed if you don’t continue to feed them.
As you found out feeding wildlife is not good idea.
Bears are even worse.
Don’t feed wild animals unless you’re willing to put up with the problems.

We have one also that comes to the door; actually it’s like a large chipmunk not a squirrel but like yours this little guy just scratches at the front door so finally we bought some boiled peanuts (no shell no mess) and it takes some and doesn’t come back until the next day. Cute little guy.
